From 2017 to 2018, he served as the editor of The Army Lawyer, Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School, in Charlottesville, Virginia. From 2015 to 2017, he served asa training officer, Defense Counsel Assistance Program, U.S. Army, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.From 2013 to 2015, he served as defense counsel, U.S. Army, in the following locations: Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. From 2010 to 2013, he served first as a laborcounsel for a year, and then as a trial counsel/special assistant U.S. attorney, U.S. Army, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Judge Barnes is a member of the State Bar of Texas.
