He was in private practice in St. Louis, Missouri, from 1978 to 1987. Judge Dierkes served as a law clerk for Judge Donald B. Clark, Jackson County Circuit Court, Jackson County Courthouse, Kansas City, from 1977 to 1978. He is a member of both the Missouri and Illinois Bars.
